Banco de Bosques is an NGO that channels the donations of small, medium and large donors for a single purpose: to save endangered native forests.
It’s a system that uses satellite images in order to create a direct relationship between the donor and the actual “parcel” of land that each donor saves.
Properties with forest land tend to have a very low price per hectares; however, the reality of the current market shows that, despite the low price per acre of land containing forest, only those who are able to buy many hectares have access to these properties. It is therefore a business exclusively for large-scale land purchasers.
Banco de Bosques responds to this situation with a solution that is simple and, above all, creative.
A space is created in which the business of large-scale land purchase opens up to small-scale purchases. It is a “warehouse” of hectares of forest land in which everyone can participate, by contributing anything from a few square meters up to several hectares of forests that are automatically saved.
You can track the progress of saved hectares step-by-step at the Banco de Bosques website, and each donor can know the exact location of this “parcel” of earth that was saved thanks to your contribution.
What’s allowed and what’s not…
On Banco de Bosques property, the transformation (clearing) of land is strictly forbidden.
Only non-aggressive activities are permitted, such as certified FSC forest management, organic beekeeping, ecotourism, gathering of non-wood forest products and, only under very special conditions, low-impact organic livestock raising. We want to show that it is possible to generate employment and to produce without destroying nature, and we believe that these activities can accomplish that.
Banco de Bosques cannot sell the properties. It has been established that only in the case of dissolution or by order of the Banco de Bosques’ Board of Directors will the properties be donated to the National Park Administration.
