To The Forest Bank ecological and social issues within an ecosystem are of equal importance.

The Forest Bank is a foundation that collects donations from individuals on a middle and large scale and also from foundations, international cooperation agencies and private business´ . The aim is to save threatened native forests. Through satellite images and google earth software a direct connection is created between donors and the specific part of the forest saved by their donations.

Forest land is sold at a very low price per hectare (1 hectare = 2.5 acres). In spite of the low price per hectare forests can only be bought by purchasers who can buy a great number of hectares at once. Forest land is a wholesale real estate business of hectares. The Forest Bank innovative approach is about turning this business into a retail real estate non profit business of hectares by offering a simple and creative alternative.

The idea is to deal with forests at a retail level rather than at a highly commercial level. A business in which everybody can donate a piece of land, a couple of square meters or a couple of acres, automatically saving them.

The progress of donations and the equivalent number of saved acres can be followed on the Forest Bank website (www.theforestbank.org). Donors can see exactly where the piece of forest they saved is located and with satellite image technology they can even see the trees in the forest from a few hundred feet above the ground.
